Happy Birthday Aaliyah-Rip (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001)

Today is Aaliyah's Birthday , Happy Birthday Babygirl ! In memory of Aaliyah Im dedicating dedicating this blog to her .Today, Jan. 16, would have been her 31st birthday. She was born in Brooklyn, and raised in Detroit. Aaliyah Dana Haughton was one of the most innovative influential,hip-hop soul singers of the last decade. She released her debut album, “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” (1994), at the age of 14. Her follow-ups, “One in a Million” (1996), and “Aaliyah” (2001), were both influential and best-selling, fracturing the sound of traditional R&B. Anyhow Aaliyah is one of my favorite artists. I have a picture of her hanging in my hallway till this day. Here is the video.

When Aaliyah passed away, I was devistated. I was a freshman in college , and of course I lived on campus with my two best friends. Some of our other school mates were hanging out in our dorm which was our daily ritual.
We were in our room ,and my friend Onaka, got a message on her two-way, say that Aaliyah had passed. We didnt believe it at first because rumor's fly.And where we come from (COMPTON)rumors start & restart like every 10-15 minutes so we didnt take it seriously at all.

Somebody had the grand idea to watch the news , and of course we tunned in.About an hour of watching and hoping that we wouldn't hear any bad news ,we finally say the story.I forget what news station it was but they did a 20-30 second story about her death and moved on to the next story. We were furious. One reason was because they reported the story horribly, and didnt give it the attention it deserved, and two because our Aaliyah had passed. Not in the order, but you feel me.

After that our whole group decided to go to Universal City walk( it was about 7 or 8 of us I swear)to celebrate in her memory. We were only 18 at the time , and we felt like we needed to be in Hollywood for some reason. We went there , and had a blast in Memory of Aaliyah. Lived the night up (as much as we could)enjoyed our youth, lol and went home.

Sorry for the late post honestly I feel bad. I started working on this at noon, and got uh distracted ; ). In a good way . LOL .....

Shot out to the whole DHP Crew ah memories ! Kara,Alexis,Onaka,Hannah,Cherise,Tasha,
